Judith E. Flaherty, 66, of Rock Island, died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Trinity Pathway Hospice,

Bettendorf. Services for Mrs. Flaherty will be 1 pm Monday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030-7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be Sunday from 1-5 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family or to Trinity Pathway Hospice.

The former Judith E. Hollingsworth was born on April 7, 1944 in Rock Island, the daughter of Wayne Hollingsworth and Bernita Parks Hollingsworth. She married James M. “Flip” Flaherty on March 17, 1962 in Rock Island. He preceded his wife in death on September 3, 1987. Judy worked for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local No. 371 Milan; she retired in April of 2009. Judy was elected as the Vice President/ Business Agent of her Teamster’s local. She then served as Titan operator for Local 371. Previously she had worked in the Accounting Dept. at the Eagle Food Warehouse, Milan for 21 years.

Judy’s memberships include the Teamsters Local No. 371, Milan.

She enjoyed knitting, shopping, spending time with family, and loved following NASCAR.

Survivors include her sons, Patrick B. Flaherty, Santa Clarita, CA, Michael J. Flaherty, Rock Island; a granddaughter, Kelsie; a great grandson, Joseph; sister and brother in law, Loretta and John Compagno, Punta Gorda, FL; a brother in law, Lloyd E. Sanders, East Moline; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Flaherty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James “Flip” Flaherty; a dear sister Yvonne Sanders; father in law and mother in law, Don and Minnie Ott. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.wheelanpressly.com

So sorry to hear about Judy. I enjoyed working with her at Eagles, and spending time with her when I returned to the Quad-Cities in the summer. She was a one of a kind friend and will be deeply missed by many.

So sorry for your loss of Judy at such a young age. She was a beautiful lady with lots of friends. We considered it an honor to be her friend. Seven years ago we attended her older sisters funeral. We are unable to be at funeral since in our winter home in Texas. Gerry Earnest
