Interment: June 10, 2011 at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island, IL

Dolores E. “Laurie” Grossell, 82, of Milan, IL, died Monday June 6, 2011 at her home.

Services are 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Memorials may be made to Jordan Catholic School.

Dolores was born July 7, 1928 in Modale, Iowa, a daughter of George W. Hoss and Hazel E. Lintz Hoss. She married Armin J. Grossell on October 4, 1947 in Moline, IL. He preceded her in death on November 7, 1997.

Dolores was a homemaker, and will be fondly remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, the church choir, and the Silver Cross Circle of King’s Daughters, where she had served as Treasurer and recently received her 30 year pin. An avid cardplayer, she participated in several area card clubs, where she enjoyed playing Bridge and 500. She also enjoyed sewing, flower gardening and tending her yard.

Surviving are her children (and spouses), Dr. Michael J. (Colleen) Grossell, Rutherfordton, NC, Katherine A. (John) Freeman, Rock Island, Richard A. Grossell, Rock Island, Suzanne M. Butler, Cedar Rapids, Mary A. (Rod) Carey, Rock Island, Jeanne M. Grossell, Rock Island, Elizabeth A. (Randy) Heggen, Milan, and Robert A. Grossell, Milan; grandchildren, Emily Grossell, Marshall Grossell, Walker Grossell, Matthew (Roxanne) Freeman, Laurie Freeman (and fiancé, Kevin Holmes), Andrew Freeman, Patricia (Barry) Nord, Heather (Ed) Burnell, Heidi Gygi, Jason Butler, Zachary Butler, Christina (David) Klauer, Jamie (James) Baxter, Jeffrey (Leslie) Carey, Angela Hood (and fiancé, Jose’ Sierra), Christopher Heggen, Daniel Heggen, and Sarah Heggen; great-grandchildren, Paige, Matthew Jr., Caleb, Alexis, Kelsey, AJ, Emma, Dylan, Cameron, Trinity, Taeyler, Evangeline, Alyssa, Madilynn, Isabelle, Olivia, Tristan, Kaitlynn, Jose’ Jr., and Madison; great-grandkitties, “Buddy” and “Holly”; great-grandpuppy, “Ariel”; sisters, Herythel Faylor, Missouri Valley, IA, Margaret (Wally) Ruffcorn, Modale, IA, and Shirley (Cliff) Swanger, Missouri Valley, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her husband, Dolores is preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Patricia L. Grossell, and six brothers, Dorance, Loren, Duane, William, Larry and Dale Hoss.
