Interment: Saturday June 18, 2011 at Andalusia Cemetery, Andalusia, Ill.

Robert E. “Bob” Simmons, 84, of Milan, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Trinity Rock Island.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Burial is at Andalusia Cemetery, where military honors will be presented by American Legion Posts 569 and 200 and V.F.W. Post 1303. Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan or A & S Rescue (www.aandsrescue.com).

Bob was born on July 19, 1926 in Rock Island, the son of Samuel and Kathryn Unger Simmons. He married Mildred Louise Kauffman on June 4, 1949 in Moline and they settled in Milan, where Louise still resides today.

He attended Rock Island High School and then joined the U.S. Navy. Bob was a WW II U.S. Navy veteran. Upon returning from the War, he began his career at the J.I. Case Co., Rock Island. Bob loved his job and retired in 1988 after 41 ½ years of dedicated service.

He was a true outdoorsman. Bob loved to hunt, fish, and take his old boat out on the Mississippi. He was a man of many talents and could fix anything.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Louise; their four children, Alberta (Calvin) Parmley, Milan, Charles (Sheri) Simmons, Milan, Mike (Silvia) Simmons, Carey, Ill., and Sharon Bleyaert (Stuby), Rock Island; grandchildren, Bill (Abby) Pedersen, Joe (Sabrina) Garard, Lori Simmons, Michael Simmons, and Samantha Bleyaert; great grandchildren, Tristin Peterson, and Kayden Garard; his longtime hunting partner, Frankie Hoteling; and his faithful dog, Maxine. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter, Jera Bleyaert.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends. Bob was a good man , Father, Husband , grandfather and friend. He will be missed is putting it mildly.
