| Janet K. Ortega, 62, of Rock Island, died Friday, June 24, 2011 at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rock Island. Private inurnment will be at a later date at the Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice. Janet K. Gang was born on Jan. 18, 1949 in Rock Island, a daughter of Charles and Joan VanHoorebeke Gang. She married Cruz Ortega on July 2, 1981 in Morrison. Jan was a registered nurse and worked many years in the emergency room at Trinity Rock Island and its predecessor hospitals. She last worked at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rock Island. Jan had been active with the Rock Island/Milan Booster Club, Rock Island Music Associaton and Rock Island Little League. Survivors include her husband, Cruz; sons and daughter-in-law, Alex and Rachael Ortega, Rock Island and Joey Ortega, Los Angeles; sisters and brother, Judith (Orris) Groenenboom, Mechanicsburg, Pa., Teresa (Peter) Cone, Rock Island, Stephen (Mary) Gang, Rock Island, and JoEllen Sloan, Rock Island; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. | |

So very sorry to hear of Janet's passing. I worked with Janet way back in the 70's at Moline Public Hospital when she was at first a Respiratory Therapist and then into the Nursing Profession. We shared many good times and I still think of her often.

I am sorry to hear of Janet's passing. While we long ago lost contact, I fondly recall the times we enjoyed working together at St. Anthony's in the Respiratory Therapy department. Janet always helped make working less drudgery and more fun. May she rest in peace.
