Thomas “Tom” Florian, 68, of Rock Island, formerly of Milan, passed away Thursday July 28, 2011 at St. Anthony’s Continuing Care Center.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00p.m., Sunday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:30p.m. to service time at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Rock Island County Humane Society.

Thomas was born on October 29, 1942 in Berwyn, IL, the son of Henry and Thelma Florian. He married Charlene Trent on October 29, 1969 in Wilmington, IL. She preceded him in death on November 5, 1998. He later married Judy DeKoster on December 5, 1999 in Rock Island.

He was a United States Army Veteran.

Mr. Florian was employed by the Rock Island Arsenal for over 30 years as a computer programmer, retiring in 1994.

Thomas was a member of Moline Viking Club, IHMV Ski Club and the Milan American Legion. He enjoyed being with his family, golfing, skiing, his many friends and worldwide traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Florian, Rock Island; daughter and son in law, Monica (Luc) Janelle, Ankeny, IA; daughter in law, Jennifer Florian; grandchildren, Sebastien, Simon and Max Janelle, Madeline and Ethan Florian; step grandchildren, Christopher, Courtney, Derek, Haley and Max Gillman; sister, Mary Jo Walsh, Wilmington, IL.

He was preceded in death by his son, Derek and parents.

When we were kids, Tom was like the older brother I never had. He taught me about fast cars, rock and roll, how to shoot, how to fight. I will miss him, I wish I were able to make his memorial service, my thoughts are with all of you.
