Lela McGoldrick Cates, 88, of Rock Island, IL, died Friday August 5, 2011, at Trinity, Rock Island.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030-7th Ave., Rock Island, IL. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Moline Church of Christ.

Lela was born on October 1, 1922, in Grimmet, MO, a daughter of Joseph O. Bennett and Elizabeth Endicott Bennett. She married Paul McGoldrick on December 12, 1941 in Hocomo, MO. He preceded her in death in January of 1978. She later married Garner Cates in October of 1982 in Bettendorf, IA. He preceded her in death in 1994.

Lela was a homemaker and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, all of whom loved her very much. She will be greatly missed.

She was an active member of Moline Church of Christ. She enjoyed quilting and cooking.

Survivors include her children (and spouses), Roy (Paulette) McGoldrick, Moline, IL, Shirley (Donald) Wehr, Milan, IL, and Vickie (Les) Baych, Robins, IA; grandchildren, Kimberly (J.R.) Howell, Moline, David (Katy) Wehr, Bettendorf, Leah Cullis (John Liipfert), Austin, TX, Amanda Wehr (fiancé, Angelo Vallejo), Chicago, IL, Claire Cullis (fiancé, Paul Vercruyssen), Seattle, WA, and Michael Cullis, Cedar Rapids, IA; great-grandchildren, Brooke Densmore, Riley Wehr, and Connor Wehr; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Lela is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, two brothers, and four sisters.
