Matthew Sean Morrissey, 49, of East Moline, formerly of Rock Island, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2011.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be 9 am until service time Thursday at the church. Burial is at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus.

Matthew was born May 27, 1962 in Rock Island. He was a God fearing man and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island as a young man.

He attended Alleman High School and later obtained an Associate’s Degree in Horticulture. Over his lifetime he worked as a carpenter, landscape designer and forklift operator. He loved fishing.

He was the youngest of the six children of James and Peggy Morrissey of Rock Island, who survive him. Matthew is also survived by his caring companion, Cindy Gair, East Moline; sisters, Julie Sweeney, Palm Springs, Calif. and Therese Morrissey, Peoria, Az.; brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Kit Morrissey, Edwardsville, Ill.; sister-in-law, Angela Morrissey, Port Charlotte, Fla.; seven nephews and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael and sister, Cynthia.

My condolences to his family and friends! We used to be neighbors and his sister Terry used to baby sit for my children! Matt bought a home-made go cart from me for $5!
