Interment: Saturday December 31, 2011 at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island

Dan J. Flynn, 94, of Rock Island, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at his home. A Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday at 9:30 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be Friday at from 4-7 PM at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, with a Christian Wake Service recited at 4:00 PM. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island, where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made to the United Way of the Quad Cities.

Dan was born on August 8, 1917 in Rock Island, the son of Dan and Irene Anderson Flynn. He was a graduate of St. Ambrose University and later joined the U.S. Army, where he served during WWII.

Dan married Margaret Patricia Sinnett, “Pat” on May 29, 1948 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Rock Island. He owned and operated Flynn Beverage, Inc. for over 50 years, retiring in 1995. Dan was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and many other fraternal organizations over the years. He was also an avid gardener and golfer.

Dan is survived by his wife, Margaret, “Pat”; children, Matt (Patti) Flynn, Larkspur, CO, Kate (Don) Worden, Germantown Hills, IL, Tom Flynn and Annie Byrd, Rock Island, and John (Becky) Flynn, Moline; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard.

Dan has a very interesting heating system in his home which I have had the privilege of working on over the years. He was always interested and willing to listen to ideas for bettering the system. He was a joy o work with. Please accept my condolences in his loss.
