Richard J. Mueller, 85, of Taylor Ridge, passed away Tuesday December 27, 2011 at St. Anthonys Care Center, Rock Island.

Funeral services will be 11:00am Saturday December 31, 2011 at Zion Lutheran Church, Taylor Ridge. Visitation will be 4-7pm Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Private burial will be in Zion Cemetery. The family would prefer instead of floral arrangements that memorials be made to Zion Lutheran Church or AGSD (Association of Glycogen Storage Disease).

Richard was born on September 7, 1926 in Taylor Ridge, the son of William and Lois (Winegard) Mueller. He married Marlene Stumpf on October 11, 1952 in Rockford, IL.

He was a United States Army, Korean War Veteran.

Mr. Mueller was a farmer in the Taylor Ridge area.

Richard was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Taylor Ridge. He had also been active with the Rock Island fair board, a founding member of the Edgington Fire Department and a 4H leader. He enjoyed restoring his two antique model T cars and antique tractors.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene; sons and daughter in law, Brad R. (Christine) Mueller, S. Beloit, IL, Brett W. Mueller, Taylor Ridge; granddaughters, Pamela Mueller and Paige Mueller; sister, Marjorie Wood, Clinton, IA; brother, Allan (Gloria) Mueller, Urbana, IL; sister in law, Peggy Mueller, Taylor Ridge.

Richard was preceded in death by two sons, Charles E. Mueller and Jay A. Mueller; brothers, Glenn and Kenneth Mueller; and a sister Rachel Mueller.

Richard was a good man. He was a 4-H leader of mine and my sisters. He was dedicated in whatever he did. He will be missed by many in the Taylor Ridge area! Rest in Peace Richard, you were a very fine man!

I grieve Dick's passing. What a good friend he was to my family over the years! Elon and Trudy Long counted him among their closest friends. I remember him as a man of great skill who loved God, cared about others, was a family man, and a faithful father and husband to Marlene for 58 years! May Dick's good legacy live on.
