Gary E. McDonough, 67, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at his home. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 pm to 5 pm at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030-7th Avenue, Rock Island. Graveside services will be 10 am, Monday at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military rites will be conducted By the Moline American Legion Post No. 246. Those wishing to attend the graveside services at the National Cemetery should meet at the funeral home by 9:30 am on Monday. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. Gary was born on March 3, 1945 in Ottumwa, Iowa, a son of Everett McDonough and Gladys Puffinbarger McDonough. He married Helen Emanuel on July 24, 1967 in Rock Island. Mr. McDonough worked at the International Harvester Farmall Works, Rock Island for 20 years. He was then transferred to the Navistar International Plant in Springfield, Ohio where he worked for another 10 years, before retiring in 1997 after 30 years of service. He was a Past President of Friend Circle Club, Moline. His memberships also include the UAW Local No. 1309, Rock Island and the Rock Island VFW Post No. 1303. Gary was a US Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife, Helen; mother, Gladys Johnson, Rock Island; children, Kathy (Rodney) Mincks, Moline, Travis McDonough, Rock Island, Patty McDonough and her companion, (Darren Spicer), Moline; grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Harlee, Nolan, Tristen, Josef and Jordan; a brother, Tom (Deanna) McDonough, Rock Island. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Everett; step fathers, Don Myers and Marvin Johnson; and his grandparents. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.wheelanpressly.com
