Gwendolyn C. “Gwen” Cliff, 57, of Rock Island, died Saturday, May 19, 2012 at her home.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Bettendorf Christian Church, 3487 Towne Pointe Dr., Bettendorf. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Gwendolyn Carlene Anderson was born on July 16, 1954 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, a daughter of Les and Ruth Norman Anderson. She married John M. Cliff on May 25, 1974 in Rock Island.

She graduated from Rock Island High School in 1972 and from the former Moline Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing. Gwen worked in the nursery and postpartum at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus Birth Center for over 31 years.

Gwen was a member of the Bettendorf Christian Church. Her life was devoted to her family whom she loved dearly.

Survivors include her husband, John; daughter, Carly Cliff, Rock Island; sons and daughter-in-law, Gregory Cliff, Chicago and Michael and Katherine Cliff, Colorado Springs, Colo.; granddaughters, Molly Cliff, Rock Island and Adeline Cliff, Colorado Springs; her mother, Ruth Anderson, Rock Island; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kay and John Retzl, Moline, Joan and Don Rinner, Iowa City and Jean Anderson and Dale Nicely, Rockford; eight nieces and nephews; and a number of great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Les.

Gwen - you got to go home early because you were such a wonderful person. Anyone who knew you will miss you here, but we know you are in good hands. John - 38 Years of freindship and love. So many happy memories of family times in Swedesburg, IA where we grew up. Thoughts and prayers seem hardly enough for her family at this time and yet I believe Gwen can now rest and is at peace. I offer my deepest sympathy to all of you at this time sadness at the death of Gwen. I worked as a chaplain at Genesis for many years and remember her there as one who made a difference in so many people's lives, often at the time of great joy, but also in those times of sadness, too. I also am a colleague and friend of Jean's, and offer my prayer and thoughts to all of you in this time of grief and loss that the mercy, love, and grace of God might be with you all to sustain you and bring you peace.

Gwen, You will be sorely missed by your family. I just regret I am far away and unable to be there for your family, but you and John should believe myself and my sons, Terry and Troy, have never forgotten you and how much we appreciated everything you did and the great times we shared together. Aunt Gwen will surely be missed by many people. She has such a fun, giving and outgoing personality. I will never forget what Gwen taught me, esp my love for camping. I remember our play times in the playhouse that Les built. What fun!!
