| Fred F. Danay, 95, of Rock Island, died Sunday, May 20, 2012 at the Heartland Healthcare Center, Moline. Services for Mr. Danay will be 1 pm, Thursday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030-7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 pm – 7 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be conducted by the Moline American Legion Post No. 246. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established at a later date. Fred was born on October 14, 1916 in Numa, Iowa, a son of George and Mary (Brdar) Danay. He married Gleda Howard on May 20, 1950 in Moline. She preceded her husband in death on October 23, 1998. Mr. Danay worked at the John Deere Plow and Planter Works, Moline for 33 years, retiring in 1978. Fred was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed Harris Pizza and attending his U. S. Army First Armored Division Reunions with his wife. Fred attended the First Evangelical Free Church, Moline and was a member of the Moline American Legion Post No. 246. Fred was a World War II U. S. Army veteran serving in Italy, where he received the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart Medal for wounds he received during battle. Survivors include his sons, David (Laura) Danay, Rock Island and Ivan (Janis) Danay, Moline; a great granddaughter, India Danay, Davenport; and a brother, John Danay, Rock Island. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gleda; grandson, Christopher Danay; brothers, George, Robert and Daniel; sisters, Antonia and Eva.
