Everett Laverne Mullens, 74, of Rock Island, died Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Graveside services for Mr. Mullens will be 1pm Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 pm – 8 pm at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030-7th Avenue, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family. Everett was born on September 12, 1937 in Davenport, a son of Warren Mullens and Myrtle Sheldon Mullens. He married Marilyn Hester on September 5, 1958 in Burlington, Iowa. Everett had worked for the City of Rock Island. He later worked as a security guard at St. Anthony’s Continuing Care Center, Rock Island for over 20 years, retiring in 2001. Survivors include his wife Marilyn; daughters, Robin Mullens, Austin, TX., Teresa Mullens, Rock Island; sons, Warren Mullens, Moline and Jeff Mullens, Rock Island; 12 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren; and a sister, Helen (James) Aitken, Rock Island. Everett was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald and Virgil Mullens; sisters, Francis Marie, Anna Solomon, and Janet Hawthorne. Marilyn and family... Working in Joliet, I was not able to make it to the services...I am so sorry to hear of Everett's passing. He was a friend for a long time. I worked with him in the 70's and will never forget the time he got sucked up into the garbage truck by his foot. I had to pull him out and carry him into the hospital. THAT was a scary moment. Anyway... Prayers are with your families.
