Mary Ellen Poindexter Carroll, 78, of Rock Island, died Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Trinity Rock Island. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00 pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will be an hour prior to service time. Entombment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Memorials may be made to the family to establish a fund for the grandchildren. Mary was born July 28, 1933 in Alton, IL, the daughter of Arthur Lee and Jessie Steward Poindexter. She married Marvin “Pickle” Maurice Carroll in Alton, IL. He died March 3, 2007. Mary retired from TACOM at the Rock Island Arsenal on January 5, 1998. She attended Christ the King Catholic Church in Moline and was a member of the Red Hat and Garden Clubs at In Touch, also in Moline. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, blues, and bowling. She was known as “GG” to her great-grandchildren. She was mothering to all and loved her family. Survivors include her daughter, Yolanda (Dr. Nnamal Pascal Patrick) Ezeugwu, Rock Island; Grandchildren, Tanya Dechelle Carroll, Olekachi (Rainee) Jean Thomas, Chioma Mariellen Ezeugwu, and Nnamal Pascal Patrick Ezeugwu Jr.; great-grandchildren, Victor, Leroy, and Jonathan Koontz, David Artis Jr., and Kyndra Mae Jourdan; sister, Elizabeth (Robert) Jean Teague, Alton, IL; brothers, James Poindexter, Rock Island, Ronald (Alice) Poindexter, Alton, IL, and Reid (Carole) Poindexter, Las Vegas, NV; and several beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by; Pickle; her parents; sister, Charlotte Fallon; brother, ArthurPoindexter Jr.; and an infant sister. | |

I worked with Mary at TACOM for a while. She was always a very sweet and pleasant person to be with. You will be missed.

To my big sister. Sorry I can't be there, but you will ALWAYS be in my heart and memories. I'll always cherish our long phone conversations, our texts and emails.
