| Betty M. Schmidt, 86, of Milan, died Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Services for Mrs. Schmidt will be 11 am, Friday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030-7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to the Church of Peace, United Church of Christ, Rock Island or to the Quad Cities Animal Welfare Shelter, Milan. Betty was born on June 1, 1926 in Rock Island, a daughter of John and Marie (Dahn) Swanson. She married John Edward Schmidt on January 23, 1946 in Des Moines, IA. Mr. Schmidt preceded his wife in death on May 17, 2004. Betty was a homemaker. Her memberships include Church of Peace, United Church of Christ, Rock Island, the Sarah Circle of the church, and the 10th Mountain Division Auxiliary. She enjoyed dining out, traveling, and spending time with her grandson, Tim. Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Carol and Dewey Steele, Milan; a grandson, Timothy John Schmidt; five step grandchildren; and 13 step great-grandchildren. Next time I get back to Rock Island and go to Hickory Gardens, it will not be the same without seeing you. Thank you for the memories.
