Interment: Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island, IL

Miguel P. Tapia, 53, of Taylor Ridge, IL, died Friday August 17, 2012 at his home, following a courageous battle with leukemia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan, where a rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Miguel Pizano Tapia was born February 19, 1959 in Moline, IL, a son of Erasmo Tapia Espinosa and Nicolasa Pizano de Tapia. He married Tamara L. Olson on July 24, 1982 in Rock Island, IL. She preceded him in death on August 15, 2010.

Miguel was a maintenance supervisor for 32 years at William Young Apartments in Milan. He loved spending time with family and friends, riding his motorcycle, and enjoying the outdoors. He will be greatly missed by all. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan.

Survivors include his daughter, Jessica Tapia Mier, and her husband Bryan, Rock Island; son, Michael Tapia, Taylor Ridge; granddaughter, Eliana Mier, Rock Island; god-daughter, Isabel Tapia; brothers and sisters (and spouses), Jose P. Tapia, Sr., Erasmo P. Tapia, Rodrigo P. (Luisa) Tapia, Isabel (Andres) Tapia de Orsorio, Raul P. (Graciela) Tapia, Maria Tapia, Jesus P. (Maria) Tapia, Sylvia (Elias) Tapia de Carrillo, Maximiliano P. (Penny) Tapia, Margarito P. (Marieta) Tapia, Rafael P. (Lucy) Tapia, Nicolas P. (Georgia) Tapia, and Antonio P. (Lourdes) Tapia; mother-in-law, Rose Olson, Milan; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Miguel is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one brother, Manuel P. Tapia.

For the past 2 years Mike has been a wonderful friend and I will truly miss his big smile, hearty laughter and his amazing friendship that he had given to me. May his memories help all of you get thru this trying time. We have all missed him terribly at William Young. No one can ever take his place .. I really don't think they could keep up with him!
