Marilyn J. Buchman, 80, of Rock Island, died Thursday, September 13, 2012 at the Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday at the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, 2324 18th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 pm Monday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of the Spring Forward Learning Center, 2312 18th Ave., Rock Island.

Marilyn was born on December 18, 1931 in Rock Island at the home of her parents, George Y. and Helen M. Johnson Downing. Her father was co-founder and Vice President of Downing’s Dairy in Rock Island. Marilyn married Jimmie L. Buchman I on November 27, 1954 in Rock Island.

She graduated from Rock Island High School in 1949, and later attended MacMurray Women’s College in Jacksonville, IL.

She was a past Cub Scout Den Mother, and was a very active member of the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church. She loved assisting with their after school program, which is currently called the Spring Forward Learning Center, as well as assisting with the Safe Passage’s program at the First Baptist Church, Rock Island. She also enjoyed bowling.

Survivors include; her children, Gail J. Buchman, Des Moines, IA, Frank E. (Marika) Buchman, Rock Island, Dale A. Buchman, Burbank, CA, and Ronald L. (Cynthia) Buchman, Caledonia, MS; grandchildren, Laticia (Dwight) Buchman Jefferson, Cynthia E. Davis, Karin D.(Adrian) Plato, Brent E. (Kailynn) Buchman, and Alyssa L., Alexis L., Jeremy L. and John B. Buchman; great-grandchildren, Dewaun K. and Latron D. Hampton, Talissa N. Vegas, and Kyla J. and Audriana R. Plato; sister-in-law, Mary Ann P. Kimbel-Downing; niece, Karen J. Downing-Rascher; and nephews, Donald Y. Downing, and Jimmy L. Buchman II.

She was preceded in death by; her husband; parents; brother, Donald G. Downing; and great-grandson, Tyree C. Hampton.

Frank and family-we are so sorry about your mother passing. She is now in heaven and is free from all her struggles. No more limits from the stroke and other medical issues.

We are so happy that she was able to be at your wedding to enjoy that special committment with you. We know you loved her deeply. We know that you spent time with her every day before going to work.
