Bethel B. (Shaffer) Betsworth

Bethel B. Betsworth, 93, of East Moline, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

A memorial service in celebration of Bethel's life will be held at Noon on Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, East Moline, with Rev. Becky Sherwood officiating.  Visitation will be 10 am until service time Saturday.  Private inurnment will be at a later date in Rowley, Iowa.  Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family.  Memorials may be made to the church or to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.

Bethel B. Shaffer was born Dec. 15, 1923 in Center Point, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Cleo Myers Shaffer.  She graduated from Rowley High School and the Iowa State Teachers College.  Bethel taught in a country school from 1942 - 1946.  On Dec. 22, 1946 she married Lowell J. Betsworth at her parents farm in Brandon, Iowa.  He died Jan. 21, 1980.

Bethel was a member of First Presbyterian Church, East Moline and P.E.O. Chapter BL.  She loved spending time with her family and tending to all of her many plants.  Her favorite times were spent on her patio admiring her yard or the many family gatherings at her home.

Bethel is survived by her two sons, James (Lisa) Betsworth, East Moline and Robert (Molly) Betsworth, Davenport; son-in-law, Nicholas Maro, Moline; and five grandchildren, Sarah (Mike) Castro, Diana (Zachary) Hettenbaugh, Mary Betsworth, Ben Betsworth, and LCpl William Betsworth.  She always felt very blessed to have lived to enjoy four great grandchildren, Helo and Mara Castro and Mason and Graham Hettenbaugh.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Linda Maro; and brother, Roberts Shaffer.
