Catherine L. “Katie” Huggins, 80, of Sherrard, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Visitation will be Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan, where a Christian Wake service will be held at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Sherrard Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association. Catherine L. Schaechter was born on September 24, 1938 in Rock Island, a daughter of John and Helen McGaughy Schaechter. She married George Huggins on September 12, 1959 in Aledo. Katie was registered nurse in the Mother/Baby Unit at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island for 40 years. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan and the Red Hat Ladies. Katie was a former member of Knights of Columbus Allouez Council No. 658 Ladies Auxiliary, St. Pius X Ladies Bowling League, Mary Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Orion, while there she had served as President of the Altar and Rosary Society, Extraordinary minister, Parish Nurse, Organist and sang in the church choir. Katie loved her family, friends and babies. She enjoyed traveling. Survivors include her husband, George; sons, Mark (Linda) Huggins, Milan and Robert (Kelie) Huggins, East Moline; grandchildren, Michael (Kristie) Huggins, Davenport, Matthew (Michaela) Huggins, East Moline, Emily (Jason) McDowell, Taylor Ridge, Tyler (Sierra) Huggins, Burlington and Michele Daxon, East Moline; 10 great grandchildren; and a brother, John William (Peggy) Schaechter, Viola.
