Doris "Quisty" (Quist) Anderson

March 6, 1920 ~ January 5, 2018 (age 97) 97 Years Old

Doris Georgia “Quisty” Anderson, 97, of Rock Island, passed away Friday, January 5, 2018 at Silver Cross-Friendship Manor, Rock Island.  A memorial service for Quisty will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Wheelan Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of Augustana College.

Doris was born on March 6, 1920 in Moline, the daughter of Bert H. Quist and Olga (Larson) Quist.  Quisty attended Rock Island Public Schools and graduated from Rock Island High School in the Class of 1937, where she was also a women’s tennis champion.  She then earned her A.B. Degree from Augustana College in 1947.  Quisty majored in Psychology, minored in physical education and earned her certificate to teach.  She married Willard L. Anderson on December 31, 1941.   He passed away October 31, 2008.

Quisty liked to refer to her “being in the Army” during World War II.  After her marriage, three weeks following the bombing of Pearl Harbor, she followed her husband from military camp to military camp – six of them in five different states for two-and-one half years prior to her husband going overseas.  She was then employed by The Augustana Book Concern, in Rock Island, until her husband’s return home.  Quisty was a member of the Rock Island County Welfare Board, Augustana College Endowment Society, Rock Island YWCA, Y-Teen Board and a Board Member of the Augustana College Alumni Association.  Quisty was a volunteer at Lutheran Hospital in Moline for many years and she was the recipient of the Outstanding Service Award for the Augustana Alumni Association. She was a former member of St. John Lutheran Church, Rock Island.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Gary Ross Anderson, Seattle, Wash.; son and daughter in law, Norman Quist Anderson and Dianna Downing, Columbus, Ohio; granddaughters, Signe Downing Anderson and husband, Drew Yoder and Erinn Christine Anderson, all of Columbus; great granddaughter, Ingrid Rose Yoder and many other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard and her parents.
