Eleanor M. (Huss) Conrad

Eleanor M. Conrad, 95, of Rock Island, passed away peacefully with family by her side, Monday November 26, 2018 at UnityPoint, Trinity, Rock Island.

A memorial service will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, with visitation one hour prior to services Saturday. Private inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family to be designated later.

Eleanor was born May 3, 1923 in Rock Island, the daughter of Leonard and Anna Cox Huss. She graduated from Augustana College and then from University of Iowa in 1945, with degrees in Journalism and English.

Eleanor and Harold Conrad were united in marriage on December 26, 1945. He preceded her in death on April 22, 1999.

In earlier years, Eleanor was an advertising writer for local Quad City stores through WQAD. She also worked at WHBF and for WOC. She later taught for 16 years at Rock Island High School. She founded “The Rock” in 1985, located in front of the fieldhouse at Rock Island High School.

She was a member of D.A.R., American Association of University Women, Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, Alumni of the Quad City Music Guild, and Senior Theater Group in Sarasota, Fla.

Her greatest joy was her family, who will miss her dearly. She and her husband enjoyed houseboating.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Kathleen Conrad, Silvis, Chris and Patti Conrad, Cedar Falls, Iowa, David and Cynthia Conrad, Prior Lake, Minn., and Mark Conrad, Sarasota, Fla.; grandchildren, Cameron, Jennifer, Pauline, Amanda, Dana and Claire, and their spouses; and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Richard Huss.
