Gerald Bopes, 76, of Taylor Ridge, passed away Sunday July 1, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City.
Visitation will be from 4:30-7pm Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan, with a Christian Wake service at 4:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30am Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Andalusia. Burial will follow in Edgington Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the Family.
Gerald was born on September 24, 1941 in Edgington, the son of Faye and Marguarite (VandeVoorde) Bopes. He married Wanda Iverson in February of 1966 in Rock Island.
Mr. Bopes had been employed at Moline Consumers and later Jewel Foods as a truck driver.
Gerald had been an active member with St. Patrick’s Church, Knights of Columbus, Teamsters Local 710 and 351. He had been a board member and volunteered with the Milan Christian food pantry.
Gerald loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, he also enjoyed watching the Dodgers, Cubs and Illini. He never missed a sporting event his grandchildren played in, was an avid Rock Ridge fan and took great pride in his yard.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Wanda; children, Gina (Troy) Roberts, Milan, Tony Bopes, Andalusia, Ty Bopes, Taylor Ridge; grandchildren, Hali(Russell) Hatch, Derek Roberts, Katlyn Roberts, Casey(Victoria) Cortz, Tyler Bopes, Emily Bopes, Ayden Bopes; great grandchildren, Preston, Karlee and Bryce; brothers, Dan and Gene Bopes.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ed, Don and Chuck.
