Gladys H. Heather, 101, of Rock Island, died Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.
Funeral services are 10:30 am Saturday, April 21st at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Entombment will be in the Memorial Park Mausoleum, Rock Island. Visitation will be 9:30 am until service time Saturday. Memorials may be made to the Two Rivers United Methodist Church, Rock Island, or to the Benevolent Fund of Friendship Manor, Rock Island.
Gladys Young was born Dec. 31, 1916 in What Cheer, Iowa, a daughter of Jett and Blanche Urie Young. She married Doyle F. Heather on Aug. 31, 1940 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He died Nov. 3, 2008.
Gladys had worked for the former Illinois Bell Telephone for 36 years, retiring as group chief operator in 1977.
She was a member of Two Rivers United Methodist Church, Rock Island, the Blanche B. Wurbs Circle of King’s Daughters and Sons, the Wesleyan Circle of the church, Telephone Pioneers of America, A.A.R.P. and the Q.C. Times Plus 60.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David and Irene Heather, Sturgeon bay, Wisc.; grandchildren, Amy (Gary) Campbell, Mark Heather, Erin (Mark) Weber, and Matthew Heather; grandson-in-law, Andrew Jester; and great-granddaughters, Allison Doyle Campbell, Heather Grace Campbell, Ava Star Weber and Hazel Moon Weber. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle; granddaughter, Terrel Heather Jester; and brother, Clarence Young.
