Joseph James Smolenski

Joseph J. Smolenski, 27 of Geneseo, Ill., passed away Satudray, June 10, 2017 at the University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison, Wisc.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Thursday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E 4th Ave., Milan, Ill.  Burial is at the Coal Valley Cemetery.  Visitation is 3 to 7 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.

Joseph James Smolenski was born Nov. 21, 1989 in Moline, Ill., the son of James Jr. and Marla Mills Smolenski.  He married Lexie L. Getchel on Oct. 22, 2016 in Milton, Wisc.

Joe graduated from Orion High School in 2008, where he played footbal, baseball and golf.  He loved all sports and continued playing baseball at the collegiate level.  He graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree.  He was a technology specialist with A.C. McCartney.

Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, sport shooting and playing golf.  He was a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers.  He was a loving husband, son and brother.  He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  His smile was contagious and he could always make anyone laugh.

He is survived by his wife, Lexie; parents,  Jim and Marla Smolenski, Lynn Center, Ill.; sister, Ann Smolenski, Lynn Center; and his grandparents, James Sr. and Bonnie Smolenski, Milan.  He was predceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Dorothy MIlls.
