Kenneth J. Simmons

Kenneth J. Simmons, 81, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Generations - Rock Island.  Services for Kenneth will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Wheelan Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.  Private inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.  Memorials may be made in care of the family.

Kenneth was born on July 21, 1935 in Rock Island, the son of James Simmons and Lucy Segura Simmons.  He graduated from Alleman High School and worked as a Decorator for Montgomery Ward.  He retired in 1987.  Kenneth was a longtime member of the Rock Island Housing Authority Board.  He greatly enjoyed watching college and professional sports on TV, especially the Chicago Bears.  He also enjoyed watching the boats at Sunset Marina and visiting local casinos.   Kenneth was a people person who didn't know a stranger.  He loved spending time visiting with family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Jackie (Charles Manahan) Charter, Rock Island; Rosemarie (George) Harl, Milan; Rosalie Hayes, Rock Island; and many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Shirley Ingles and Barbara Rangel
