Lowell Gilbert, 77, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday November 3, 2018 in Rock Island.
A memorial visitation and celebration of Lowell’s life will be 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 10, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, with a Time of Remembrance by family at 3:00 p.m. Saturday.
Lowell was born June 10, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois, the elder son of Francis Lowell “Butch” Gilbert and Grace Mary Archibald Gilbert. He married the love of his life, Judith Higgins, on August 10, 1980 in Rockefeller Chapel in Chicago.
Lowell was a talented digital imager for FCB Chicago and also managed their in-house photo studio for over 20 years, retiring in 2007.
He was passionate about cars and racing, even building his own Porsche in earlier years. He also enjoyed photography, computers and caring for his cherished animals.
Surviving are his wife, Judith, of Rock Island; daughters and sons-in-law, Elspeth Gilbert and Jeremy Bethard, Eldridge, Iowa, and their children, Hudson and Madison, Terri and Dave Mazur, Oak Lawn, IL, and their children, Jason and Jessie, and Cyrene Gilbert Orland Park, IL, and her children, Anastasia and Zachary; great-granddaughter, Brynn; and beloved brother-in-law and uncle to many.
Lowell was preceded in death by his mother, father, and his brother, Patrick Gilbert.
Lowell’s family is grateful for the excellent care and understanding provided by UnityPoint Hospice, the kindness and care extended by St. Anthony’s 5th floor staff during his last hours, and the support from elected officials and employees of the City of Rock Island during the last year.
