Marilyn Wilson Chappell, 91, of Rock Island, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Monday, January 15, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be Sunday, January 14, from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. Burial will be at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials can be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Marilyn Wilson was born September 6, 1926 in Rock Island, the daughter of Lewis and Louise Coffman Wilson. She graduated from Rock Island High School and the University of Iowa with a degree in economics, where she worked in the statistics department. She had a career in finance working as an accountant for the Sheraton Rock Island, the Sheraton Shoe Store, and Louis Pesses, Inc. Marilyn retired as Vice President of First of America Bank, Rock Island. Marilyn was the Treasurer of the Junior Board of the Quad City Symphony and the Junior Board of the Rock Island Visiting Nurses. She was a swim coach for many years. After retirement, she spent many years residing in Naples, Florida and traveled across the United States and the world. Some of her most memorable trips were: Thompson Canyon and Aspen, Co., Alaska, Hawaii, China, Ireland, Italy, Australia, Canada, South America, France, Germany, Holland, Russia, Austria, Hungary, Vietnam, Fiji Islands, England, and Mexico. As an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs, she always read the sports section of the newspaper first. She knew lots of statistics about many sports teams and events. She loved watching Hawkeyes football and Cubs baseball games. Survivors include her children, Tom (Lydia) Chappell, Coal Valley, John (Benita) Chappell, Lone Tree, Colo., and Debbie Krohn (Chuck Mumma), Rock Island; grandchildren, Chris and Craig Chappell, Cheryll Reyes, Jason Chappell, Danielle (Tom) Preissing, Michael (Lauren) Chappell, Bobby (Ashli) Krohn, Katie (Dan) Dischler; step grandchildren, Jordana, Eric, Jessica, Zeb, Steven, and Julie; great grandchildren, Ellis, Quinn, Marlowe, Greg, Andrew, Harper, Jack, Zoey, Avery, Aurelia and Elodine; several step great grandchildren; brother, Charles (Kathleen) Wilson; and sister, Elinor (Tom) Klingbiel. Special thanks to Gerie Wilson, sister-in-law. Special thanks to Marilyn’s special friend, Dean Anderson. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lewis B. Wilson, Jr.; and grandson, David Krohn. Marilyn’s family would like to thank the nurses, aides, and staff of Silver Cross Nursing Center, Friendship Manor Assisted Living, and Heartland Hospice for the care they provided our beloved mother.
