Mary Jane Gauley, 91, of Milan, formerly of Reynolds, died Sunday, September 3, 2017 at Avonlea Cottage, Milan. A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John’s Anglican Church, Preemption, Ill. Visitation will be from 10 – 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be at Preemption Cemetery. Memorials may be made in care of St. John’s Anglican Church, Preemption.
Mary was born in Davenport, Iowa on April 16, 1926, a daughter of Burr B. and Mildred H. Wabnitz Bordwell. She married George Gauley Jr. on April 5, 1952 in Washington, Iowa. He preceded her in death on October 10, 2008.
Mary worked as a nurse and teacher for the former Lutheran Hospital in Moline.
Mary was a member of St. John’s Anglican Church and the St. Mary’s Guild, Preemption. She also served as a past Lay Eucharistic Minister at the church. She enjoyed reading and music.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Katherine McKelvey, Mobile, Ala., Susan Pumphrey, Dallas, Texas and Elizabeth Patrizi, Reynolds, Ill.; grandchildren, Eric (Christiane) McKelvey, Michael (Mary Alice) McKelvey, Timothy (Jennifer Robinson) Smith and Kristin (Christopher) DeMarlie; and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, Burr B. and Richard Bordwell and sons-in-law, Brent McKelvey and Vince Patrizi.
