Mary Louise (McAdam) Schaefer

Mary L. Schaefer, 89, of Rock Island, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018 at Silver Cross - Friendship Manor, Rock Island.  A funeral service for Mary will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7^th Ave., Rock Island.  Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday,  prior to services at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.  Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Mary was born on January 12, 1929 in Reynolds, IL, the daughter of Clyde S. and Marie M. (Barrell) McAdam.  She grew up in Reynolds and married Harry L. Schaefer on March 14, 1948.  He preceded her in death on September 7, 2000.  Mary worked as a Janitor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Jordan Catholic School and Immanuel Lutheran Church.  She was a loving homemaker for her husband and 3 daughters.  Family gatherings and playing games were some of her great joys in life.  She also took pleasure in completing word searches and puzzles.

Left to cherish Mary’s memory are her daughters; Lin (Bill) Skiles, East Moline, Penny (Greg) Spragg, Rock Island and Tamme Schaefer-Hoss, Rock Island; 10 grandchildren;  numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and many other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; parents; brother, Robert E. McAdam and son in law, Kelly Hoss.

Mary’s family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregivers from Silver Cross and Hospice Compassus in her final days.  Their loving care gave Mary a chance to have one final family gathering to say good bye.
