Maurice R. Poling, 86, of Rock Island, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2018 at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island.
Visitation is 11 am to 1 pm Friday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Graveside services will follow at 2 pm at the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be presented. Those wishing to attend the service should be at the funeral home by 1:30 pm. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the National Epilepsy Foundation.
Maurice was born on Sept. 10, 1932 in Fort Wayne, Ind., a son of Ralph and Edna Schaefer Poling. He married Norma J. Glick on July 11, 1953 in Fort Wayne.
He graduated from the Indiana Institute of Technology as an electrical engineer. He retired from the Louis-Allis Corp., where he worked as a sales engineer.
Maurice was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a volunteer for the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center and had been a Boy Scout leader. He enjoyed woodworking, bird watching, sports, music and especially loved his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Norma; sons, Randy (Laura) Poling, East Moline, Ron (Aleksandra) Poling, Oceanside, Calif., Rick (Kim) Poling, Andalusia, Kevin Poling, Bluffton, Ind., and Kent (Vickie) Poling, Rock Island; 12 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and a stepsister, Nancy Snow, Warren, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Poling.
