Misty Dawn Pursell

Misty Dawn Pursell, 44, of Cedar Rapids, IA, (formerly of Davenport, IA) passed away Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Unity Point-St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, IA. 

Born on February 21, 1975 in Burlington, IA, she was the daughter of Desiree Miller and Kerry Davis. She married Gregory Pursell on June 16, 1999 in Las Vegas, NV.

Misty graduated from Davenport Central High School, Class of 1993. She worked as a Paraprofessional with behavior focus children at Hiawatha Elementary School. Misty loved her job, and working with children with behavioral developmental disabilities was her passion. She had an inseparable bond with her siblings Aaron Miller, LaKayla Ross, Carmen Price and Kerry Davis, Jr. Misty enjoyed traveling and taking trips with her sisters. Family meant everything to her and she went out of her way to show love and support to those she loved dearly. When Misty wasn’t working, she liked to read, attend her childrens’ activities, and could always be found entertaining family and friends. No matter the circles she traveled, whether on the homecoming court in high school, hosting Thanksgiving dinners with her family or spending time with her co-workers, (aka her extended family) Misty was loved, valued and adored. 

Misty is survived by her husband, Gregory Pursell, and four children Alaysia, Damon, Gianna, Kenyon of Cedar Rapids, IA and one step son Derek Pursell of USN Japan; two brothers, Aaron Miller (Tammy) & Kerry Davis, Jr. (Mesha) of Davenport, IA; two sisters, Carmen Price (Brandon) of Fayetteville, NC, and LaKayla Ross (Avery) of Rock Island, IL; Her grandmother, Helen Miller “Big Mom” and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and all of her Burlington family. 

Misty was preceded in death by her mother, Desiree Miller, Grandfather Leonard “Tree” Miller, and great aunt Margaret Stone.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 15, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, IL. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at the funeral home. 

A memorial has been established for First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Rock Island.
