Odelia Cotton, 90, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018 at her home. Funeral services for Ms. Cotton will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Second Baptist Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church, Rock Island.
Odelia was born on April 8, 1928 in Preston, Miss., a daughter of Marcus “Tee” and Gussie (Baker) Hudson. She married Willie R. Cotton on February 11, 1945 in DeKalb, Miss. and 4 children were born to their union. Odelia worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for 26 years, retiring as a Receiving Department Supervisor in 1990. She was a dedicated member of Second Baptist Church for over 65 years. Odelia loved bowling and bowled 6 days a week on several leagues. She was an avid basketball player who was very competitive. Odelia also enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and she was known as a great Southern cook.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Samme Montgomery, Davenport, Willie Cotton, Jr., Dorothy Cotton and Evelyn (Walter) Day and a foster son, Tervarus Morrow, all of Rock Island; grandchildren, Darrin, Anthony, Falena, Leila, Willie III, Quanishia, Nashun, Anthony, Kelly and Shanette; 9 great grandchildren; siblings, Helen Carruthers, Rock Island, Delsine Hearst and Christine Harrison, Omaha, Neb.; godchildren, Lonnie Boyd, Debbie Marshall, Sharon Wilson; and many other loving family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 6 brothers, Luther, Sylvester, L.T., Charles, Milton and J.B. Hudson and 2 sisters, Lorine Gatheright and Willie B. Glispie.
