Robert was born in Kewanee, IL on March 4, 1942, a son of Rutherford “R.B.” and Dorothy (Locks) Vlahovich DeBord.

Robert worked as an orderly for many years at the former Lutheran Hospital in Moline and later for the former Oak Glen Home in Coal Valley, where he retired in 2002.

Robert was a member of the Quilt Guild of Rock Island County where he made many friends.  He was past member of the Lions Club in Coal Valley.

Robert was an excellent pianist who loved music.  He enjoyed sewing with his best friend, Millie, as well as vacationing with his family who he cherished more than anything.  He spent his last few years living at Heritage Woods of Moline and loved his friends there.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Jim Smolenski, Milan, IL; nieces and nephews, James (Marla) Smolenski, Lynn Center, IL and Julie (John) Brandenburg, Spring Lake, NC; and great nieces and nephews, Ann Smolenski, Joshua and James Brandenburg, Joel (Kelly) Anderson and several others.
