Roger W. Taube, 75, of Rock Island, passed away Friday, September 1st, 2017 at Friendship Manor in Rock Island, IL. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, September 7th, at 12:00 p.m. at the Wheelan Pressly Funeral Home in Rock Island with Pastor Leonard Astrowski from Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A private burial will be held on Friday at the Oakwood Cemetery in Geneseo. Memorials may be made in his memory to the Geneseo Humane Society or to Bethesda Lutheran Communities, an organization that enhances the lives of people with disabilities through a Christ-driven mission.

Roger was born on July 31st, 1942 in Geneseo, the only son of Herbert W. Taube and Ruth Greenwood Taube. He graduated from Geneseo High School in June 1960; and then from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana with a degree of Bachelor of Architecture from the College of Fine and Applied Arts in June 1966. He immediately began working for Leo A. Daly. Co. and then Landis Construction Co., Inc., in New Orleans, LA.  Roger worked in both the architectural design and working drawings departments. In 1969, Roger worked part time for Richard Caldwell and Associates on the St. Louis Hotel and started his own construction firm, ShoreLine Products Co. as a registered State of Louisiana Architect. He was a charter member and Vice president of the Marina Tenants Association

Upon returning to Illinois, Roger won the Geneseo city flag design contest in 1975. He worked briefly with the Mel Beckstrom firm in Moline, IL. Up until 2010, he was active in the Quad Cities’ programs for the mentally ill (Progress Place, ARP – Activity Recreation Program, and CSP – Community Support Program). During his lifetime, he was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Geneseo. Roger enjoyed boating, water skiing, photography, and music. He played the piano, organ, trombone, and guitar. He entertained his sisters and residents at assisted living and nursing home facilities with his unique guitar style.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by: his sisters, Janice Borkgren of Geneseo and Irene Taube of Chicago; his nephew Jeff (and Lori) Borkgren of East Moline; his niece Cynthia (and Steve) Abraham of Elk Mound, WI; his great nephew, Ethan Fagen of Menomonie, WI; his great niece, Karly Borkgren of East Moline; Aunt Mary Lou Taube of Geneseo; cousin, Bob Taube of Rock Island; and many other relatives and good friends.
