Virginia A. Stockdale

Virginia Stockdale, 92, of Rock Island, died August 4, 2018 surrounded by her family. A private family service will be held. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family. 

Memorials may be made to the Rock Island Junior Board. Virginia was their Mardi Gras Queen in 2017 and a sixty-year member.

She was born June 25, 1926 in Brackenridge, Pennsylvania, the daughter of John and Cora Sipes. She attended Grove City College. Virginia married Earl Stockdale on June 11, 1949.  They came to Rock Island in 1955. Dr. Earl Stockdale died in 1994.

Virginia was a past president of the Allegiance Circle of King’s Daughters. She was past president of PEO Chapter JI and was the voting delegate to the state convention five times. She was past president of the Rock Island Medical Society Auxiliary. Virginia served on the board of the Rock Island Community Foundation. She was a sustaining member of the QC Symphony. She was a member of the Rock Island Homemakers’ Association. She also volunteered on behalf of numerous organizations.

Virginia’s top priority was always her family. Always.  She and Earl have three children:  Joan Stockdale, Karen (Henry) Burns, and David (Sharyn) Stockdale. Her grandchildren are Daniel (Elsa) Impens, Scott (Tera) Impens, Ben (Cambria) Krueger, Carolyn Krueger, Emily, Sara and Mary Grace Stockdale. Virginia’s great grandchildren are:  Isabella and Elin Impens, Abigail and Zachary Papke, Katherine Impens, and Cole, Cora and Crosby Earl Krueger. She is also survived by her beloved cat, Susanna.
