William E. “Bud” Burton, 85, of Rock Island, Ill., passed away Thursday May 16, 2019 surrounded by family.
William was born August 22, 1933 in New London, Missouri, a son of Eugene and Amy Coleman Burton. He married Mersel J. Nixon on February 26, 1955 in Rock Island.
William spent most of his life in the construction industry working as a Labor Foreman. He retired after 42 years of working for Prester construction. He loved watching Country and western movies and anything cowboy. He remained an avid LA Dogers fan throughout his life.
William enjoyed spending time with his family and loved his reputation as the family’s handyman-He was always there to help relatives and friends with household projects. He was an outdoors man who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and the pure beauty of nature. He was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all.
William is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mersel of Rock Island; along with eight children, Tyrone Quick, Kansas City, Mo., Debra Jones, Muskegon, Mich., Tammy Burton, Los Angeles, Calif., Paula Burton and John Burton, both of Rock Island, Vickie Riley and Stacey Johnson, both of Minneapolis, Minn., and Garven Burton, Dallas, Texas; fifteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Mr. Burton was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard and Willard; sisters, Sally, Christine and Imogene; and mother-in-law, Eva Nixon.
Family and Friends will celebrate William's life on Saturday, May 25th, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Second Baptist Church 919-6th Avenue Rock Island. Rev. Joseph D Williamson III will officiate. A visitation will take place 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island.
