Obituary

Doris Mae Goode passed away on February 9, 2025 at Brookstone Assisted Living Facility, Aledo, Illinois.  Doris was born at Lutheran Hospital, Moline, Illinois on December 7, 1930, the daughter of Edgar Allen Robbins and Mabel (Geddes) Robbins. Doris met and married a cute young man named Delbert (Junior) Decker, Jr.  Their marriage was blessed with two sons Michael and Daniel. Junior unexpectedly passed away and Doris then courageously raised her two young boys as a single mother. Doris worked at Farmers State Bank of Viola for twenty-five years, retiring to help her second husband Richard Goode on the farm. Richard passed away in November 2019.

Doris was a patient wife and outstanding mother and grandmother. She will be forever loved and remembered for her 3 P's: Pancakes (fried in lard) to die for, Potato Salad (to which none can compare), and Peanut Brittle (that just one piece could never satisfy). In fact, her three year old grandson, having eaten her pancakes, potato salad, and peanut brittle all in a single day once asked his dad "can I marry Grandma"?

Going on to eternal rest before her are her parents; husbands, Delbert (Junior) Decker Jr. and Richard Goode; and brother, Francis (Spain) Robbins.

Doris is survived by her 2 sons, Michael and Daniel (Elizabeth) Decker; 3 grandchildren, James Decker (Danielle), Faith (Eric) Wiechers and Jakobi Decker; great-grandchildren, Payton and Elijah Decker and Elizabeth, Fritz and Davis Wiechers.

Doris was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church, Taylor Ridge, Illinois. She adored the Lutheran Faith with its emphasis on salvation by grace through faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Fellowshipping with the members of Zion was the highlight of her week.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Zion Lutheran Church, Taylor Ridge, with a visitation to be held from 10:00 to 11:00 am. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Taylor Ridge, IL. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan is assisting the family.

Many thanks go out to the staff and residents of Brookstone Assisted Living Facility for the professional care and kindness extended to Doris.  A celebration of Doris' life will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 16, 2025 in the family dining room for all Brookstone residents and staff.
