Irene (Hurdle) Henderson, 86, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday May 14, 2016 at UnityPoint, Trinity, Rock Island.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Moline Church of Christ, Moline, IL. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 - 7th Ave., Rock Island, IL.

Additional services will be 12:00 p.m. (noon) Saturday at Concord Baptist Church, Slayden, MS, with burial following at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery, Slayden.

Irene was born August 1, 1929 in Moscow, TN, to Willie Shields and Pink Hurdle. She was united in marriage to John Henry Henderson in 1948.

Irene was a mother and grandmother to many people. She never met a "stranger". Her home was open to everyone that needed a place to call home. Irene was always on the go; visiting family and friends, traveling or just taking a car ride to Sunset Park. She was a member of Marion Temple #1186, East Moline, IL. Irene was baptized at Westside Church of Christ where she faithfully attended until her health started to fail.

She is survived by her children (and spouses), Pearl (Odell) Hickman, Juanita (Marty) Bea, Shannon and Melvin Henderson, all of Rock Island, IL, Yvette Henderson, Moline, IL, Mary and Aubry Henderson, Davenport, IA, Ora Moore and Henry Henderson, Memphis, TN, Beverly (Greg) Chapman, Naperville, IL, and Sherry Walden, Stafford, VA. She leaves behind 43 grandchildren, some of whom she raised, a host of great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all who mourn her passing. She also leaves a special friend, Beverly Evans.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Henderson, and a son, Larry D. Henderson.
