Vicki L. Mathews, 67, Rock Island, IL passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at UnityPoint-Trinity Hospital in Rock Island, IL surrounded by her loved ones. There will be a visitation from 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM with a funeral following at 1:30 PM on Monday, June 24, 2024 at Grace Church PCUSA, Rock Island, IL. Burial at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church, the MS Foundation or the American Diabetes Association.

Vicki was born on January 26, 1957 to Everett and Helen (Vanderpool) DeMeyer in Rock Island where she grew up and graduated high school. On October 16, 1982 she was united in marriage to Dennis Mathews. The couple made their home in Rock Island. Vicki was a dedicated homemaker who cared for their daughter and then her grandchildren.

Vicki was a member of Good Shepherd, later Grace Church. She enjoyed traveling with Dennis and their friends. She also liked antique shopping. She was an animal lover who had many cats and hedgehogs over the years. Vicki also loved to write. She had hundreds of pen pals all over the world and is known for the carefully selected cards she would send for all occasions.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Jennifer (Scott) Shields; brother, Gary (Sandra) DeMeyer; brother-in-law, Dean Mathews; grandchildren, Shelby (Garrett) Stevens, Grace (Isaiah) Munoz, and Isabelle (Joshua) Carlson; a great-grandson, Jack Stevens and one great-grandbaby on the way; several beloved nieces and nephews; as well as her special friends, Leu Ann (Bob) Huffman and Diane Bueser; and her beloved kitty, Abby.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dennis; and great-granddaughter, Zaylie Munoz.
