IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alan S.
Frankel
April 28, 1944 – October 4, 2015
Alan S. Frankel, 71, of Bettendorf passed away peacefully Sunday, October 4, 2015, at Clarissa C Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, surrounded by his loving wife and three children.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Congregation Beth Israel at the Tri-City Jewish Center, Rock Island. Burial is at Hebrew Cemetery, Rock Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Scott County Humane Society or to a favorite charity.
Alan was born April 28, 1944 in Davenport, IA, the son of Lawrence S. and Charlotte (Leman) Frankel. He attended Rock Island High School and the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. He was president of his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Mu, where he made many lifelong friends. He remained an avid Illini fan until the day he passed, wearing his hat and jersey. In fact, he may have been responsible for their win last Saturday.
He married Nancy K. Reinecke on June 22, 1969 in Davenport and they went on to have 3 beautiful children. His family continued to be his biggest source of pride and joy throughout his life.
Alan began his career at Dunn and Bradstreet, then moved into food brokerage, and eventually made his way into the real estate world. There he began as a property manager, moved into commercial realty, and finally found his heart and passion in commercial real estate development. He was instrumental in developing Rock Valley Plaza in Rock Island, developed the Golden Triangle in Bettendorf and most recently was developing the I-74 Tech Park in Bettendorf. He always said he would continue to put deals together until the day he died. He succeeded with that goal and may even still be making them.
Alan was a very caring man, which led him to serve on the Board of United Cerebral Palsy and the Scott County YMCA. He belonged to many different organizations throughout his life and enjoyed being of service to his community.
In his early years, Alan was an avid golfer and loved nothing more than coaching his children in their different sports, especially soccer and basketball. He coached his son David in soccer for many years, culminating in competing in the Iowa Games. He remained a lifetime fan of watching all sports, and was especially devoted to the Michigan State Spartans and the success of his son-in-law within their football program.
Alan and Nancy loved nothing more than opening their home to their children's friends throughout the years, providing love, comfort and countless hours of counsel. He felt like he was a father to many more than just his 3 children.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy, of Bettendorf; children, David Frankel, Bettendorf, Megan Tressel, and her husband Mike, DeWitt, Mich., and Erin Jeansonne, Pagosa Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Logan Tressel, Quincy Tressel, Finley Jeansonne, and Beckett Jeansonne; nephew, Eric (Tera) Shimp, Burke, Va.; niece, Leah (Shawn) Vass, Arlington, Va.; several grandnieces and cousins.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jess and Edna Reinecke; and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carol and Allen Shimp.
