Albert D. Gersick, 105, of Northbrook, IL, formerly of Rock Island,
passed away Sunday July 10, 2016 at his home.
Graveside services will be 3:00 pm Tuesday at the Rock Island Hebrew
Cemetery.
Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting
the family. Memorials may be left to the Jewish Federation of the Quad
Cities.
Albert was born on February 12, 1911 in Zidik, Lithuania, the son of
Abraham and Sarah (Shirman) Gersick. Mr. Gersick came to Rock Island at
the age of 2 with his mother and older brother, to join his father who
had settled here in 1910. He married Florence Finkelberg on August 9,
1942 in Davenport, Iowa.
He was the owner of Kiddieland and Gersick's Jr. Boot Shop of Rock
Island from 1946-1976.
Albert was a member of the Tri City Jewish Center, Rock Island. He
enjoyed golfing, where he hit 2 holes in one, Gin rummy and poker. In
his youth, he loved baseball, handball and tennis.
He will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, gentle bearing and the twinkle in his eye.
Survivors include his wife, Florence; children, Barry (Linda) Gersick,
Eagan, MN, Shelley(the late Douglas) Stangle, Buffalo Grove, IL;
grandchildren, Stephanie Gouette, Andrea (Danny) Dobrin, Lauren (Luke)
Sauer; great-grandchildren, Jayson and Samantha Gouette, Hailey and Nyla
Dobrin and Kaia Sauer.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Harry and
Sally Gersick, Milton and Anita Gersick, Marvin and Lena Gersick.
