Alex Strandgard, Jr., 87, of Coal Valley, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2024, at New Perspectives, Silvis.
Harriett H. Strandgard, 83, of Coal Valley passed away on Friday, May 8, 2020, at Amber Ridge Memory Care, Moline.
Combined services for Mr. and Mrs. Strandgard will be 10 am, Saturday at Beulah Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley.
Visitation will be on Friday from 4 pm to 7 pm at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan.
Memorials may be made to the church. Burial will be in the Western Township Cemetery, Orion.
Alex Strandgard Jr. was born on September 30, 1936, in Rapids City, Illinois, a son of Alex and Irene (Quick) Strandgard Sr. Alex married Harriett Crawford on September 9, 1961, in Edgington. Mr. Strandgard was a schoolteacher for the East Moline School District No. 37., retiring in 1994 after many years of teaching. He was a member of Beulah Presbyterian Church, the Rock Island County Farm Bureau, Illinois Education Association. Alex enjoyed working on his farm, gardening and feeding the birds. Mr. Strandgard was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.
Survivors include his children, Mark and Kathy Strandgard, Sherrard, Cynthia and Jack Allen, Orion; grandchildren, Riley (Nick) Welch, East Moline, Spenser Strandgard, Woodhull, James Allen, Galesburg, Jon Allen (Marissa Kletke), Coal Valley, Seth Allen, Orion; a great granddaughter, Harper Welch; siblings, Alfred Strandgard, Washington, Jon Strandgard, Geneseo, and Marilyn Pennington, Kansas.
Alex was preceded in death by his wife, Harriett; granddaughter, Taylor Strandgard; siblings, Richard Strandgard, Betty Truitt, Cheryl Mathis, Barb Zesiger, and Martha Norton.
Mr. Strandgard's family would like to thank New Perspectives caregivers, nurses, and staff for the love and care he was given.
