Alice S. Layer, 96, of Milan, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 at The Kahl Home, Davenport.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan.  Visitation will be held from 4 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan, with a rosary being recited at 3:30 pm.  Entombment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan.

Alice was born on December 18, 1919 in Moline, the daughter of Rene and Selma (DeWitte) Lievens.  She married John Layer on December 27, 1941 at Sacred Heart in Moline, he preceded her in death on October 5, 1991.  They were an established farming business for more than 40 years in Rock Island County.  Alice was a member of St. Ambrose, Milan, she enjoyed friends and family, visitors, reading, and watching her favorite teams: Chicago Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, and her grandchildren's teams.

Alice is survived by her three children, Tina Elliott, Terry (Howard) Holladay, and Tom (Joyce) Layer, all of Milan; grandchildren, Joe (Kim) Elliott, Chris (Tracy) Elliott, Tom (Shannon) Elliott, Ryan (Clare) Holladay, Amy (Matt) Finley, Nick (Nicole) Layer, Natalie (Drew) Forest, and Nina (Roman) Runyan; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John Layer; parents; son-in-law, Lonnie Elliott; and siblings, Elmer, Albert, Ernie, Marie, Josephine, and Clare.
