Alice "Rexine" Brown, 83, of Andalusia, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Aledo Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. A private family Baha'i service will be held at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 4th Ave E., Milan. Burial will follow services in Andalusia Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Life held following the services and burial from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday at the home of Alice's son Louie, located at 712 3rd St. E. in Andalusia. Memorials may be made in care of the Andalusia Cemetery Association.
Alice was born on November 9, 1931 in Coldbrook Twp., Warren County, Illinois, the daughter of Rex and Alice (Groce) Hillman. She married Robert Freeburg in 1948 and Edward Hoffman in 1957, they preceded her in death. In 1968, she married the love of her life and soul mate, Roy S. Brown.
Alice ran her own namesake restaurant "Alice's Restaurant" in the early 80s. She was a member of the Rock Island Eagles #956 Ladies Auxilliary, past Worthy Madam President. She received an award and citation for her commitment and contribution to the Child Abuse Council. She worked at the Lady Luck Casino (now Isle of Capri) and received The Best Award. She also worked at The Little Store in Andalusia for her daughter, Connie, and son-in-law, Don.
Alice loved fishing, golf, reading, bingo and playing cards with her family. She loved to travel with her husband, Roy.
Survivors include her devoted husband, Roy; 5 loving children, Connie (Don) Brock, Andalusia, Linda Hesse, Andalusia, Robert "Bob" Freeburg, Milan, Louie Hoffman, Andalusia and Chester " Chuck" (Shelly) Hoffman, Andalusia; step-children, Rod Brown, Robbie Brown and Randy (Jill) Brown; 25 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; brother, Gene Hillman, Arroyo Grande, Calif. and a sister, Barbara Orwig, Canton, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Otis, Lee and Jake Hillman; sisters, Shirley Carothers, Nancy Kitt and a step son, Roy Lee Brown
