Obituary

Allen "Cowboy" L. Behncke, 84, Moline, IL passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025 at Hope Creek Nursing Home in East Moline. Private services will be held. Memorials may be made to the family.

Allen was born on October 19, 1940 to Leonard and Dorothy (Vogt) Behncke in Lancaster, WI. He grew up in Wisconsin and after graduating high school, enlisted in the US Navy. He was honorably discharged and then returned to Wisconsin. On August 14, 1964, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Mahan in Rock Island. The couple made their home in Moline where they raised their five children.

Allen spent the majority of his career as an inspector for John Deere Plow-Planter where he worked for almost 30 years. After retiring from Deere in 1992, he became an over the road truck driver, working for local farmers. He also plowed snow for the county. He was a member of the UAW.

Allen was an avid outdoorsman. He loved being outside, whether it was hunting, fishing or riding his ATV. He was a talented archer who won numerous competitions over the years and had a collection of several "Robin Hoods" in addition to many trophies. Allen's passion, however, was fly fishing. He greatly enjoyed going up to Dubuque and Swiss Valley and many places in Wisconsin to fish for trout and northern.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Marilyn; children, Deborah (Lewis) Spilker, Terry Behncke, Laurie Zude, Jodi (Tim) Behncke, and Bryce Behncke; grandchildren, Lewis (Angie) Spilker, Jeremy Spilker, Sheri (Mike) Novak, Michael (Ashley) LaFountaine, and Kelsey (Preston) Fisher; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Larry Behncke, Dale Behncke, Maxine Freymiller, Nancy Schramm, Jeanette Ward, and MaryAnn Stappert; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Mark Zude; and brother, Roger Behncke.
