Alphonso Dickerson Sr., 84, of Rock Island, IL departed this life peacefully surrounded by family on July 19, 2024. There will be a visitation from 5-7:00 PM on Friday, August 2, 2024 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. The funeral will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Second Baptist Church, Rock Island with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial at Rock Island Memorial Park. Masks are recommended.
Alphonso Dickerson Sr. was born March 26, 1940 in Blytheville, Arkansas to Cora Bea Dickerson and Corrine Vasal Dickerson. On March 21, 1960 he married the love of his life, The Late Dorothy Gean Blakney Dickerson. She died 2022. They would have celebrated 64 years this past March. Al had several jobs including the Ruby Ray Family Business, Watts Trucking, and Frank Foundry. He retired from the Rock Island Housing Authority after 23 years of service. He was reunited with his wife, son Darrell, parents, siblings Melvin and Vernon Dickerson, Gwen Johnson, & Corrine (Lou) Thompson.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Bonnie (Mike) Jacobs, Alphonso Dickerson Jr., Melvin (Ann) Dickerson, Lorraine Young, Larry (Doomie) Dickerson Sr. and Willis Dickerson Sr. Brothers Isaiah, Paul, Charles, and Michael Dickerson of Joliet, Illinois. Sisters Estella Carter of Capitol High, Maryland, and Darlene (Lee) Bradley, Joliet, Illinois. He has 26 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, family & friends.
