Obituary

Alvin C. Jennings, 61, of Davenport, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at his home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.

Alvin was born August 21, 1952 in Davenport, the son of Ernest and Mabel (Mohring) Jennings.

He took joy in Dustin's effort in identifying their rich Ashkenazi heritage that was unbeknownst to him. It provided him solace and insight into why the family fled Germany. He left home at the age of fourteen to explore the world. He lived all over the country, a broad, and in several communes. He was the definition of a free thinker; a hippie, if you will. Alvin was an avid reader and a luddite when it came to technology. He placed the highest value in ideologies that were attune with nature. While living in Colorado he was a logger and liked to spend as much time outdoors. Maritime excursions were a favorite pastime of his. He called several well-known Californians close confidants while living in San Francisco in his early twenties.

He leant a hand to his family when they were destitute. He was quite charitable and strived to help the elderly. If he observed an animal trying to cross the road he would pull over and assist it on its journey. He was an audiophile and swore by vinyl alone. His passion was taking the perfect photograph and capturing nature's beauty in its purest form. He had an interest in antiquated objects of yesteryear. One of his greatest accomplishments was getting his associates degree in Metallurgy and Psychology. Alvin had a breadth of friends that were scattered across several states. It was common for him to have people visiting his family periodically throughout the year.

Alvin will be remembered by his ex-partner Debi Arnold; his two sons Dustin Jennings and Alvin C. Jennings Jr.; his two daughters Liberty and Solara Hawkins; his step-daughter Jenny Jo Hawkins; his two sisters Cheryl Jennings and Debbie (Ron) Alexander; his three brothers Butch "Bud" (Kay) Jennings, Chris Jennings, and Paul (Cindy) Jennings; and his good friends Dennis Cook and Aubrey Jordan. He was preceded in death by his parents and best friend Jeff Gallup.
