Alvin W. Martin Jr., 90, of Rock Island, passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 am Wednesday at the church. Burial with military honors will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
Alvin was born on April 22, 1931 in Moline, the son of Alvin and Marie (Vansoye) Martin. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Alvin went on to marry Frances Hockenberry on April 4, 1952 while stationed at Camp Cook in California. She preceded him in death in 2016.
He worked as a master electrician for the Rock Island Lines, Farmall and Williams White and Company, Moline.
Alvin belonged to the International Association of Machinists, Knights of Columbus Allouez Council 658 and AARP. He was an original member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. He also enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball for many years and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan. Frances and Al enjoyed summers in Bagley, Wisconsin and their 18 years of wintering in Jensen Beach, Florida.
Survivors include his children (and spouses), Rick (Kathee) Martin, Hickory, NC, Cindy Crawford, Milan, Deborah Carlson, Chandler, AZ, Michelle (Ed) Vize, Moline, Bradley Martin, Antioch, IL and Jennifer (Jeff) Wendland, Rock Island; grandchildren, Lynn (Aaron) Justinger, Luke (Courtney) Martin, Brett (Sandra) Martin, Michael (Amy) Crawford, Joe (Christine Lehigh) Crawford, Gregory (Kyra) Carlson, Ed (Kathy) Vize, Eric (Joei) Vize, Sarah (Randy) Stevens, Allyson (Ken) Dogan, Alexander (Samantha) Martin, Patrick Martin, Scott (Tara) Wendland and Meaghan (Ben) Jackson; granddaughter in law, Christina Lee; 26 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alvin was preceded in death by his wife, Frances; parents; siblings, Joyce Eisentrager and Jerry Martin; grandson, Jacob Crawford and daughter in law, Becky Martin
