Obituary

Amanda "Mandy" Baker Wright, 36, of Orion passed away on Monday, July 27, 2015 after a courageous battle with lymphoma.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Amanda Wright Memorial Fund, for the education of her sons.

Mandy was born on Christmas Eve, 1978, in Moline, to Mindy Holladay Baker and Rick Baker. She attended Rock Island High School, competed on the swim team, and graduated in 1997. Mandy attended Augustana College, receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Sociology in 2001, and began a career in social work. A change in career lead her to a management position at RIBCO where she met her husband, Jared Wright. They married on September 13th, 2008 in Geneseo. At the time of her passing, Mandy was the manager of Casey's General Store in Orion.

Mandy was a passionate person with many loves. Foremost among them were her two little boys, Jackson Bellmyer and Harrison Wright. She was fiercely loyal to her family and friends. She made sure they knew how much she loved them. Even throughout her illness, she never focused on the negative. She continued to live her life with the love and support of everyone that surrounded her, always saying how truly blessed she was.

Mandy was an active member of her community. She belonged to St. John's Lutheran Church in Geneseo. She was a proud member of Badlands Gym and showed off her strength by completing a half marathon and several mud runs. She was also active in the Quad Cities Hash House Harriers, Dirty Pirate Chapter, where her friends knew her as Drippy Longstockings. Drippy was a leader in organizing their Red Dress Run, raising over $10,000 for charity over the past two years.

Anyone who knew her saw her sparkle. She loved life and was young at heart – she loved unicorns, cats, rainbows, Hello Kitty, tutus, Kesha and left a trail of glitter everywhere she went. She was definitely one of a kind. Friends may honor her by attending her visitation in bright, sparkly attire.

Survivors include her husband, Jared, and her sons, Jackson and Harrison, all of Orion; her mother, Mindy Holladay Baker; her father, Rick Baker (Angela); her sister, Lindsey DeMuynck (Tom); step siblings, Zachary and Kelsey Baker; grandfathers, Howard Holladay, Sr. and Kenneth Baker; in-laws, John and Joanne Wright; sister-in-law, Jen Dooley (Justin); nephew, Vince DeMuynck; and the father of Jackson, Jeremy Bellmyer. Mandy was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Dorothy Holladay and Bernice Baker.

The family would like to thank Dr. Stewart Garneau and his wonderful staff for their amazing care and for loving her as one of their own. Also they would like to thank her fabulous, rock star nurses on 4 South, Unity Point. They spoiled her for the last 10 months and treated her as the "Warrior Princess" she was. Also, thank you to all the ICU nurses and doctors of UnityPoint that allowed Mandy to finish her journey with the dignity and respect that she deserved.

Mandy's life was too short, but she lived on her own terms, with courage, grace, and humor.
