Ann Quist, 95, was born on January 13, 1931, on a farm near Delmont, South Dakota. She graduated with honors from Mitchell Business College and moved to Denver, Colorado, in 1952. There, she began her career with American Crystal Sugar and met the love of her life, Richard Quist. They were married in 1957.
Ann was a devoted stay-at-home mother to Darci and Bret until the family moved to Iowa in 1971. She then began a rewarding 41-year career with John Deere, serving as secretary to the director of market economics in the John Deere Administration Building and later as a tour guide at the John Deere Pavilion. She retired at age 89 during the pandemic.
Ann’s strong faith was central to her life. She dearly loved her church home, St. Paul Lutheran Church, and the family she found there. She served in many ways and especially enjoyed greeting people as they entered the church. Her warm hospitality and welcoming spirit made everyone feel loved and at home. Ann was a fantastic cook, and few things brought her greater joy than having people over for a meal. Her chocolate cake with caramel frosting is legendary.
Ann was a wonderful grandmother to Jenna, Nick, and Nicole and a great-grandmother to Lucy, Jack, Willa, and Penny.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; her sisters, Laura and Ileen; and her beloved husband, Richard.
The family would like to thank the staff at MorningStar Assisted Living and St Croix Hospice in Des Moines for their wonderful care.
Funeral services will be held at 10:45 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. A luncheon will be held at the church following the funeral. A private burial for family members will take place at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.
